Have you recently purchased your first home? If yes, you may have lots of questions about your roofing system. Namely, you likely want to know how long it’s going to last, how to choose a contractor to do repairs (as needed), and how much it costs to reroof a home.

As we’ve noted in the past, your roof is among the most important parts of your home. Not only does it help keep rain, mist, and severe weather outside of your home, it also protects the things that are inside of your home.

For this post, we wanted to highlight some of the most common FAQs we get from SWFL homeowners.

How long is my roof supposed to last?

This is a bit of a tricky question because there are a lot of things that factor into the answer. For example, tile roofing systems tend to last significantly longer than asphalt shingle roofs.  A second thing that factors into the roof’s lifespan relates to whether it’s been maintained. If a roof is damaged during a tropical storm and the repairs aren’t addressed promptly, this can also lead to roofs needing to be replaced sooner than later.

As a general rule of thumb, most tile roofs can last up to 50 years, whereas most asphalt shingle roofs can last up to 25 years.

How much does a new roof cost?

This is also a difficult question to answer because there are a lot of different things that contractors look at before they write up a quote. Examples include the square footage of your roofing system, the pitch of your roof, the types of materials you have atop of your home, and whether need to reroof your home due to storm-related damage (i.e., if a tree fell onto your roof due to a wind gust).

If you need to reroof your home due to storm damage, be sure to contact your insurance company to see if the repair is covered.  If you need to reroof your home because its maxed out its lifespan, call our office today to receive a free, no-obligation estimate.
