Hi! My wife and I came across your website and we have a few questions. Our roof was damaged in a recent storm and it looks like we’ll need to replace several tiles. We’re recently retired and we’re hoping to save some money and I was wondering if I’d be able to handle this type of job myself. I’m pretty handy around the house, and my neighbor said he fixed some of his roof times last year. Would it be OK to do a DIY roof repair or should I hire a Naples roofing contractor?  – John Z.

Good afternoon John and thank you for your email. The answer to your question depends on whether you have experience working as a roofer. If you’re an experienced roofer and you’ve worked with tile roofing systems before, you should be able to tackle the job yourself. On the other hand, if this wasn’t your line of work, you’ll want to leave the job to an expert.  Trying to DIY roof repair, without prior experience, would be a bit like an interior designer deciding to try to DIY replacing the transmission on their car.

There are numerous reasons you’ll want to hire a contractor to help you with this job. First, they’ll know how to handle the repair safely. If you’re not accustomed to spending a lot of time on a roof, you run the risk of falling and becoming seriously injured. Second, the materials manufacturer won’t provide you with a materials warranty. Why? Because if the materials aren’t installed correctly, the warranty will be voided (and the manufacturer will assume that if you’re not a licensed roofer, there’s a good chance the installation will be faulty.)

If the roof on your Naples home was damaged in a recent storm, there’s a good chance that the repair will be covered under your homeowners insurance policy. The best thing to do, is to contact our company to schedule a free roof inspection. Once you have the quote, you’ll want to contact your policy holder to find out what’s covered. You’ll also want to find out how much time you have to file a claim.  If the work will be covered by your insurance company, we can work with your insurance carrier directly.
