We frequently remind our clients that their roofing system is among the most important components of their home.  Not only does your roof protect your belongings from the sun, rain, and wind, it also protects the interior (and exterior) walls from weather damage.  Consequently, when it comes time to repair (or replace) your roofing system, you’ll want to make sure you hire a reputable, qualified contractor to do the job. Below are just a few of the signs that you’ve chosen a good company.

They’re licensed and insured

Reputable roofing companies are licensed and insured–  and if you ask for proof of that, they’ll have no problems providing you with that documentation.  For added assurance, you can search their contractor license number online on this website.

They have positive online reviews

Online reviews can tell you a lot about a company. First, they can give you a good sense of the level of customer service they provide to their clients. If the company you’re considering has page upon page of 5-star reviews, this is a good sign you’ve chosen well.

They’ll provide you with a written quote

Regardless as to whether you need to hire a roofer, a HVAC repair company, or a swimming pool installation company, the person you’re speaking with should provide you with a written estimate. The estimate should include the company’s logo, their contact information, their license number, and a full breakdown of costs, including labor and materials costs.  The quote should also include information about how long the project should take, i.e., will the job be done in 2 days, or will it take them a week to complete it?

You haven’t found any complaints about them on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) Website

In addition to checking a company’s online reviews, you should also check to see if past clients have registered complaints against them with the BBB.  If the company you’re considering has a long list of complaints (or if the company you’re considering is brand new, and the owner has a long list of complaints registered against a prior company they owned), this is a huge red flag.
