If you need to hire a Louisiana roofing contractor to repair or replace your roofing system, you’ll want to make sure you’re hiring the right company for the job. You’ll also want to make sure you’re working with an organization that’s professional, skilled, and has the right credentials.  Below are just a few of the signs that the company you’re talking with may not be legitimate.

They don’t have a website

In the current day and age, everyone has a website. Not only do websites help clients learn about a company, websites are also a key component of online marketing and advertising. Today, when someone needs to search for a product or service, they don’t pull out the Yellow Pages. Instead, they type a search term into a search engine.

If a company doesn’t have a website, this is a huge red flag. Do they not want to be found? If that’s the case, why don’t they want to be found? Do they have prior clients that are trying to serve them with lawsuits? Are they trying to pretend that they’re licensed when they’re not?  Suffice to say, if the contractor you’re talking to can’t be found anywhere on the Internet, you do not want to hire them.

They’re knocking on doors throughout the neighborhood

What would you do if a dentist showed up at your door to ask if anyone in your household needed to have their teeth cleaned?  Would you invite them in, or would you be skeptical? You might even find yourself wondering why in the world a dentist would need to go door-to-door to drum up new business.

The same holds true for contractors. A reputable, legitimate contractor does not need to canvas a neighborhood to get new business. Instead, they’ll get new customers via word-of-mouth, favorable online reviews, and online marketing efforts. Their work and commitment to customer service will speak for itself. Suffice to say, if Joe and John Smith Roofing Co. is knocking on doors and passing out business cards, you should be very, very skeptical. In many cases, “companies” that do this aren’t companies at all, but instead, they’re often people who are trying to get homeowners to give them a cash deposit, so they can take the money and run.
